Who Requires Manual Handling Training

All employees who during the course of their working day have to handle loads are subject to the provisions of the Safety Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 & (General Applications Regulations 2007). This syllabus is designed to meet the training requirements of these regulations and to certify that the operative has completed a course on the safe lifting and handling of loads.

On conclusion of the Manual Handling course the participant will
  • Be certified as having successfully completed a Manual Handling Course.
  • Be able to assess and size up a load before lifting.
  • Be aware of the hazards of lifting loads incorrectly.
  • Understand the need to take into consideration their own physical and
    mental condition prior to lifting.
  • Be aware of the environment that the lift must be completed in.
  • Have been trained in manual handling tasks specific to their workplace.
Course Content:

There are nine Learning Units which consist of Presentations, Demonstrations &
Practical Exercises.

  • Learning Unit 1. Introduction to Manual Handling.
  • Learning Unit 2. Legislation.
  • Learning Unit 3. The Structure of the back.
  • Learning Unit 4. Evaluation of Manual Handling Risks.
  • Learning Unit 5. Principles of Lifting & the Key points explained.
  • Learning Unit 6. DVD: Conformation of Lifting techniques.
  • Learning Unit 7. Practical Exercises
  • Learning Unit 8. Test of Lifting Techniques.
  • Learning Unit 9. Test of Knowledge.
Validation

Validation
Students who successfully complete the Manual Handling Operatives Course will be certified as having the knowledge of the principles of lifting and handling loads safely. This certification will be valid for a period of 3 years.
