SOLAS Safe Pass Programme
The SOLAS Safe Pass Programme is a one-day Safety awareness training programme aimed at all workers in the construction industry to ensure that they have a basic knowledge of Health & Safety. This also includes new entrants within the industry
  • The Aims of the Safe Pass programme are the following:
    • To raise the standard of safety awareness in the construction industry

    • To Ensure that all personnel on the construction site have undergone a basic Health & Safety Training course with the aim being to make a positive contribution to the prevention of accidents & aid in the prevention of avoidance of health hazards.

    • Allow for the maintenance of a register of people who have received such training.

    • To provide all participants with a SOLAS Safe Pass registration card which verifies that the card holder has attended a formal course in Health & Safety Awareness.

Who requires Safe Pass Cards

The SOLAS Safe Pass Programme extends to all workers within the construction industry. The Safety Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013.States the following:

(a) craft and general construction workers,
(b) persons undertaking on-site security work, and
(c) persons or classes of persons as may be prescribed by the Minister.

The Health & Safety Authority (HSA) in conjunction with the Construction Advisory Committee have produced a summary guide of the categories of persons to whom Safe Pass does not apply.

The Following does apply

  •  Craft Workers
  •  Apprentices
  •  General Construction Workers
  •  Working Chargehands
  •  On-Site Security Workers
  •  Contractors Drivers On-Site
  •  Delivery Drivers On-Site e.g. concrete trucks
  •  Students on Placement On-Site

There are thirteen Learning Units which consist of Presentations, Exercises & Case
studies.

Learning Unit 1. Introduction to Site Safety.
Learning Unit 2. Legislation and Site Safety.
Learning Unit 3. Site Accident Reporting.
Learning Unit 4. Introduction to Risk Assessment.
Learning Unit 5. Risk Assessment for Electricity.
Learning Unit 6. Risk Assessment for Excavations.
Learning Unit 7. Risk Assessment for Height.
Learning Unit 8. Behaviour Based Safety.
Learning Unit 9. Site Safety & Construction Equipment.
Learning Unit 10. Site Safety and Construction Vehicles.
Learning Unit 11. Personal Health & Welfare.
Learning Unit 12. Noise & Vibration.
Learning Unit 13. Personal Protective Equipment.

Course Pre-Requirements

• Start time 08:00hrs
• Passport Photo x1. (signed on the back)
• Participants must be at least 16 years of age. (Proof of age were required)
• Participants must be proficient in English.
• Participants must have a valid PPS number. (Public Services Card/P60)
• Participants must have a valid photo ID (Passport/Driving Licence).
• If the participant does not have an Irish PPS number, please inform us in advance of the training so that we can organise a temporary number before sitting the course

(If students do not have the temporary number on the day of the course they can’t sit the Safe Pass Course).

Validation
Validation

Once the Safe Pass course is passed the card is valid for four years.

How to Book:

From the 31 st May 2019 the cost of Safe Pass cards have increased by €7:00. We have NOT passed this onto the participant and have chosen to absorb the cost into our original cost. Saving you the participant extra costs Payment is secured by a deposit of €25:00. This secures your place on the course. This can be done by booking online with the final payment €75:00 being made on the morning of the course before registration starts at 08:00 sharp. Participants are required to arrive at 07:45hrs in order to facilitate registration. All deposits are refundable under the following circumstances:
Before & up to 3 days notice is given of non-attendance.

NOTE:

If the participant informs us that he/she will not be able to attend the course up to or prior to 3 days before the course date they will be able to avail of a 100% refund. If the participant does not contact us up to 3 days prior to the course commencing. Their deposit is not refundable, In the event a participant has paid in full on booking & does not inform us that they will not be attending the course at least 24hrs before the course, they will not be entitled to a refund.
